Vinyl Snob
Episode 5

Cutting & Pressing

In episode 5 we finish our conversation with Ron McMaster at Capitol Records. We dig into what mastering really is and Ron talks us through the “you got one shot at it” process of cutting a lacquer. The next step is pressing a record and Vinyl Snob wastes no time in driving from Hollywood to the Valley to speak with Steve Sheldon, the General Manager of Rainbo Records. Steve takes us on a tour of the manufacturing plant, starting where Ron left off and literally walking us through the many steps of pressing a record. Join us in discovering what exactly went into making that shiny round platter you put on the turntable. And as usual, there is plenty of rock n roll music to accompany us on our journey.

Vinyl cuts:

  • Ruby Baby by Donald Fagen

  • Wouldn't It Be Nice by The Beach Boys

  • Smile Away by Paul & Linda McCartney

  • Rock n Roll Music To The World by Ten Years After
